| | Who remembers back to the 80´s on the group MARILLION??? | | I remember being a big fan of their music that was more into progressiv rock and loved the vocals of their singer called Fish.I just realized how many albums i have from them, so who knows them and listens to records like Script for a jester´s tear/ Fugazi/Real to reel/Misplaced childhood & other´s.
Special the live record Real To Reel is my favourite. Also vocalist Fish did some great solo records. I didn´t like the period after Fish had left the group in the 90´s. What are your opinions on the group??? feel free on your comments and name your favourite songs & albums.
| | WHAT THE HECK IS 'EMO' ANYWAY | | to save endless arguments about what "emo" is, at least have a glance at some of this before you start posting on the forum. i'm not claiming this as my own, or as gospel, but it is pretty useful.
all the bits in capital letters in between paragraphs is me trying to make some sense of what i've copied from the following site.www.fourfa.com
thanks to andy radin for the site.check it out for a good guide to records of the time and other info.check out his band, funeral diner, if you get a chance.A BIT OF BASIC BACKGROUND (unfinished)"After Minor Threat broke up in late 1983, the vibrant DC hardcore-punk scene that exploded in 1981 seems to start to run out of steam and fresh ideas within the established DC hardcore sound. The wistful, posthumous Minor Threat 7" "Salad Days" comes out in 1984 and drives the final nail into the coffin of DC hardcore punk. Bands all over the country begin casting about for new things to do: DRI and Bad Brains start going cheeze-metal, New York bands start doing tough-guy mosh, 7Seconds goes jangly U2 alternative, etc. The prevailing change in D.C. is toward melodic rock with punk sensibilities.1984 marks the release of Zen...
| | should i join | | [edit] Formation and Origin of Name
Jimmy Eat World formed in Mesa, Arizona in 1993. Singer/guitarist Jim Adkins and drummer Zach Lind, who had been friends since kindergarten, joined forces with guitarist Tom Linton and bass player Mitch Porter to try their hand at music. In its early years, the band emulated the style of their punk-rock influences, eventually recording and releasing three singles and a full-length on local label Wooden Blue Records. The name Jimmy Eat World did not refer to lead singer Jim Adkins. Tom Linton's younger siblings, Ed and Jimmy, fought constantly when they were younger. Jimmy, who was stronger and heavier, would usually win. Ed, at 8-years-old, as revenge, drew with crayons a picture of Jimmy shoving the entire world into his gaping mouth with the caption, "Jimmy eat world." The picture, and by extension the band name, may have been inspired by an episode of the cartoon show Tiny Toon Adventures, where the main characters put on a student film festival. Dizzy Devil's film, "Dizzy Eat World", was a 5 second piece drawn crudely in crayon where Dizzy's gaping maw engulfed the Earth.[edit] Static Prevails
