Talk about the Poison music that you love here!| Have you ever had poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac? | | I was trimming our lawn about a week ago and got a tiny scratch on my forearm. A couple days later it turned into a small oozing rash. Now it's a larger still oozing slightly, rash and hives. I think the medical tape I was using to hold gauze on my arm contributed to the hives by irritating the skin. Also I think the skin irritation then caused the rash to get bigger. I've since switched to wrapping gauze rolls around my arm but now I'm getting things that look like bites which then turn into red blistery rashes on all sides of my foream.Does this sound like poison ivy, oak or sumac? Or something else entirely? I read online that poison ivy rashes do not spread by the rash themselves. It is only actual contact with the plant or it's chemical that spreads the rash.

| | I touched poison ivy!!! | | I am helping a neighbor weed her flower beds and fortunately she grew up with poison ivy and knows 100% what it is..(I only know that it has three leaves.)So she gives me gloves to which I only use if I am working around a rose bush or something prickly. I am using a hand trowel, but for the weeds that come up easily, I just pull them up and I reached into this plant and pulled up something and I soon thought,[b]Oh No.[/b] I then said to my neighbor,[i]"Is this what I think it is?"[/i] She says yes it is, so I throw the vine away and she helped me wash my hands so I didn't get any plant oil on anything. I am home now taking a lunch break and even though I washed my hands, I went straight to the fast orange, washed my hands again and then applied hand sanitizer. Here I was just getting over a bout of this itchy rash and I go and bare handed pull up a vine, how dumb is that? Well, at least we'll see if the procedure I used will prevent it from forming... | |
| | My cure for poison ivy... | | I say my cure because who knows, what works for me may not work for you. at first I used benedryl, which does help with itching, but since I had it on my face, I kept spreading it from my pillow case and this product does not stop the spreading.[i]*Note, during this time I also rubbed in hand sanitizer throughout the day.[/i]Next I tried banana peel, it worked for 3/4 of the day, then by early evening it started itching even when I applied the peel. So that was a bust..The last thing I tried is a product called[b]fast orange.[/b] This is a hand cleaner with abrasive particles. I scrubbed this onto the poison ivy with a clean cloth and then rinsed it in cool water. I only did this 3 times, for 2 nights and once in the morning and I had never had poison ivy go away as quickly as this treatment did..As for what the other treatments involvement? I don't believe so, because I used only this treatment where the last place it started spreading, on my wrist and now there is only a small red mark. It didn't spread or become irritating. | | Dogs and poison ivy | | Do dogs ever get poison ivy or carry it? The reason I asked is when I took the neighbors dog for a walk today, like any other day he kept trying to go into the weeds on the side of the road. I don't think they get poison ivy, I believe their coat protects them, but what if the oil gets on their coat and then we pet them, can we get poison ivy that way? I remember Zoe, my White German Shepherd and how she'd run off when we took her in the woods and yet I never got poison ivy. I wonder how this can be possible because it is an oil this plant has that gets on our skin, (well some of us anyhow, some are fortunate to not get this terrible rash..[em]jealous[/em]),and then we get the itching rash. So how come after the times I had a dog that I know had to have been in poison ivy and yet I never got it??? se I used only this treatment where the last place it started spreading, on my wrist and now there is only a small red mark. It didn't spread or become irritating. Though I'd never want to experiment to see if I ever had another break out if I can get it to go away within 2 days, I will if I do happen to get this again. | |
| | My poison ivy is spreading | | Usually when I get poison ivy, I already know the chances and take precautions. Like washing my hands and legs, (because I get them from picking berries) and watch for the signs..Unfortunately this time I didn't even know I touched poison ivy and when my finger started itching, I thought nothing of it and was not cautious. so evidently I touched my face because I had a couple blisters along my jawline on my right side..Next I noticed one on the tip of my left ear.. Then last night I saw one across my right eyebrow and it hit me..Since I never had poison ivy on my face before, I was able to keep the rash from touching other parts of my body and the bed sheets. With it being on my face, I thing that I am spreading it by my face touching the pillow and when I move, another part of my face touches it and that is how it is spreading.So I hope that changing my pillow case every day, (thank God we have a lot of pillow cases), that it might stop the spreading..Or if you have any ideas that will work, please let me know, I so don't want this rash any closer to my eyes... | |
| | Benadryl does work for poison ivy | | I was told about this product last year, but for some reason I didn't pick it up and now I am sorry I didn't. This is because I had poison ivy on my leg, (and I am terrible when it comes to itching) and ended up with a small mark on my leg from scratching so much. This year, I got it on a couple fingers, (actually three, I found another on my thumb..)and on my jawline and throat and I had my husband pick up benadryl that a friend here kept saying that works. When I did search for it, I did see a couple comments about the product. 1. doesn't prevent spreading. (What? Someone thought this would prevent spreading? Even I know no product can do that) 2. You have to keep reapplying it. ([em]doh[/em][em]duncecap[/em] of course you do)Anyways, with calamine lotion, I had to get up 1-2 times a night to reapply, with the benadryl, I didn't have to get up once..[em]happy[/em]So if you are unfortunate enough to get this itchy rash this year, I strongly suggest this product, it really does work..:) | |
| | Poison Ivy | | My 8yr old daughter has what I think is poison ivy. It started out in the fold of her arm 3 or 4 days ago. Didn't look bad at all. 2 days ago it moved to her neck. This morning she woke up with it all over face, neck and a little on her belly. I have never really seen poison ivy. I looked up pictures and they all looked soooo bad. It doesn't look that bad. It is just spreading and worrying me. Is there any advice to keep it from spreading or could this be something else?are unfortunate enough to get this itchy rash this year, I strongly suggest this product, it really does work..:) | |
